Daniel, I have a TP-LINK TL-WR842N "N-series Multifunctional Wireless Router" installed.

Long before buying a router, I bought three TL-WN823N "Wireless Network USB Adapters" for three of my desktop computers
and handed out WI-FI internet from your "main" (most powerful) computer, to which the cable was connected high speed internet. All traffic went through my computer, which entailed inconvenience - by turning off my computer, I turned off access to the Internet for other family members and my processor load was noticeable.
Having purchased a router, I received a device that provides all my devices (personal computers, a laptop, a tablet and two smartphones) with equal and balanced access to the Internet in terms of speed.
Following the instructions in the router's Quick Setup Guide, I created my own wireless network, with my own password (not to be confused with the password for accessing a high-speed wired connection).
It is important here that the router connects to the Internet automatically, which is signaled by green lights. If a large light bulb (LED) glows green, then the router has connected to the Internet and is ready to distribute the Internet, if it is yellow, then something is wrong with the connection to internet provider via cable (perhaps not configured correctly).
The connection to the Wi-Fi network we created is the same for both the laptop and the phone - we look at the list of available wireless connections, select the network with the name that we entered when setting up the router, click "connect". Now about what all the fuss is for. As I understand it, you decided to connect your computer to the router using a wire, and other devices using Wi-Fi. I did not try, but immediately hung the router in the far corner and have not touched it since. I don’t remember why I didn’t try it the way you are trying to connect, and maybe even tried it, but I can assume that just like that, “with a running start”, it won’t work. Recently, I read articles on the internet, looking for an answer to the question of how to expand the Wi-Fi coverage area. So, it's not that easy. From the description of the TP-LINK router, it does not at all follow that those four yellow connectors are an analogue of the HUB, designed to connect several computers to the Internet as if they were part of the Wi-Fi network, and they are not repeaters or branchers wired internet. All routers distribute WiFi through special channels, the number of which can reach 13 or more. As a rule, in the default settings of the router is auto mode finding the most suitable channel. The device does not connect to the Wi-Fi network.

If during the connection of the client to Wi-Fi the device does not see the wireless network, but connects to others without problems, then as a rule the solution to the problem lies in the settings of the router. Look at the top panel of the router in the area of ​​​​indicators and find the LED informing you about the activation status of the Wi-Fi module in the router. The indicator is located near the antenna with radio waves and if the module is turned on, the LED will blink or stay on.

If the indicator is not lit, then this indicates that the module is deactivated. To enable or disable the Wi-Fi module in the router, you can use the special button located on the body of the network device, unless, of course, the manufacturers have provided such an opportunity.

But if there is no button, then you should go to the section responsible for the wireless connection (Wireless). As a rule, to enter the router interface, you need to enter the gateway 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 in the browser line and log in.

  1. Set the encryption type to AES for the WPA2-PSK standard;
  2. Write a password consisting of one digits (at least 8 characters);
  3. Change WPA2-PSK to WPA-PSK.

The device connects to a Wi-Fi network, but does not access the Internet.

Sometimes it happens that the device is almost connected, but instead of accessing the Internet, we have to see the message “Obtaining an IP address” on the screen for a while, and then reconnect again.
